We are all aware in some way, shape or form that there are significant benefits to regular daily exercise! Some of those benefits include, but are not limited to enhanced sleep, decreased stress, prevention of weight gain, reduction of health risks such as HBP, stroke, Type 2 diabetes, depression, enhanced cognitive function, decreasing fall risk etc. If you check out the American Heart Association website you’ll find that their number one emphasis is that physical activity is extremely important in preventing our Number 1 and 5 killers which are Heart Disease and Stroke.

Now, the more daunting task for the vast majority of the population seems to be getting exercise and physical activity to fit in our busy everyday lives. It’s easy to make excuses, but somehow much harder for people to justify getting in some daily activity. What many folks do not understand is the fact that physical activity does not have to be strenuous to produce results. As recommended by the American Heart Association, Moderate exercise 5-6 days a week can create lasting health benefits! Now, that means approximately 2.5 hours spread of the course of the week, which comes out to about 30 minutes per day. That’s not too much to ask for, when it comes down to your personal health and body, especially when we are given this one body to embrace in our lifetime! And if 30 minutes at a time of activity is still too much, or too difficult to achieve, it is still beneficial to break that time up throughout the day. So take three 10 minute walks throughout your work day, or set an alarm for every hour to get up and maybe try an easy strengthening exercises, or take the stairs instead of the elevator, use your lunch time and turn it into a “Run-ch”, or encourage and spread the benefits of physical activity with a friend, family member or co-worker! Remember, SOME activity at any level of intensity is BETTER than none!
